As with The Elenium, there was very little I remembered about the story of The Tamuli, so there was a lot I found surprising as I was reading. The single-volume edition features all of the original material of the separate books including shiining and weighs in at pages. David Eddings’ wife, Leigh Eddings, was an uncredited co-author on many of his early books, but he had later acknowledged that she contributed to them all. Sparhawk soon discovers that they mythical Shinging Ones aren’t quite as mythical as everyone thought, and their danger is very real.

Back to that dialogue. Back There’s good stuff and there’s cringe-worthy stuff. Some of that is the fact that my copy is serious damaged – pages are falling out of it – so I couldn’t bring it anywhere.

Sephrenia is against this at first, thinking the Delphae were behind her family’s murder. In a world of many gods, whose powers depend on the number and fervor of their worshippers, the royal couple find themselves pawns in the struggle of one entity to free his followers, albeit bloodthirsty and un-neighborly, from constraints placed upon them onfs previously. In this book, it’s a plus and a minus. You hardly recognise her.

They were thought to be fictional. All that’s really left is the tedious plodding from here to the victory celebration. Reading about that again was really, really disturbing. Character interaction is at the forefront of this book at the expense of a complex plot, though it’s still hard to fathom motives for some of the stranger plot devices, or any sense of excitement, as the characters never find themselves in any challenging situation.

It becomes a completely different type davir story than initially expected from reading the first instalment. I did remember the shocking revelation that is discovered in this book, but I had forgotten why.

This book reads nothing like David’s other novels as the plot is weighed heavily on the emotional turmoil of the female goddesses, and yet this book still does a disservice to the feminist agenda!

The novel chronicles the journey of Sparhawk and his companions as they journey across two continents to the city of Matherion, capital of the Tamul Eddingd – where supernatural occurrences threaten the safety of the entire world.
